Change Your Google/Gmail Password: iPhone

By Jill Spencer on December 8, 2021

Change Your Google/Gmail Password: iPhone

Our last post reviewed the steps for changing your password for Gmail and your other Google accounts.  Today we will look at the same process, but only on your iPhone. There are some major differences that we will go over.

Last time, we mentioned how scams and phishing expeditions are proliferating to the point that we have to change passwords in order to protect ourselves. It’s important to remember, if you change your Google/Gmail password on one device, it will also be changed for all of your digital devices.  Therefore, you do not need to repeat the process on each device.

Here are the directions for changing your password when Gmail is open on your iPhone.

It is pretty easy to change the Gmail/Google password when you use the Gmail app on your phone instead of going through the iPhone Mail app. If you don’t have the specific Gmail app, go to the App Store and download it.  It is free.

When you open the Gmail app, your screen will look similar to the image below. Notice that in the upper right-hand corner is your picture or a blank avatar in a circle. Tap the circle.

This screen should appear. Tap the words “Google Account.”

On the next screen, you are going to tap Security.

On the next screen, scroll down until you see the word Password. Look for the little arrow to the right of it. Tap.

You will be asked to type in your current password. Then tap Next.

Here’s where you change your password. Notice you need to type it in two times. Don’t forget to tap Change Password. Then you are done–your Google/Gmail password is changed. You may be asked to sign in with this new password on your various devices.

Just a reminder that your Gmail/Google account is a cloud app which means you can access your email or Google Drive or Google Photos from any device in the world as long as you have your email address and password.

Next time, we will go over the steps for an iPad.
