Snapseed and PSExpress, free editing apps for your smart phone and tablet, help you turn a “nice” photograph into a stunning image. Below are some examples of how I have been playing around with these two apps. Also, I have added at the bottom of the post a couple of links to videos that demonstrate how to use them.
Both Snapseed and PSExpress allow you to cut out unwanted objects in the photo. Notice that in picture # 1, there is a sprinkler in the ceiling. In Picture # 2 it’s gone. Magic!
I like playing with colors and effects in both of the apps. Below is a series of my pup, Sammy.

Turned the image into a black and white study of Sammy.
“Popped” the color blue to make it more vibrant.
It is also possible to improve landscape shots.

Finally, both apps allow you to play–add special effects, frames, or create a vignette appearance. Here are a couple of examples.

A dahlia altered by the Grunge effect and a bit of a weird frame
Nikki–cropped & Fine Art effect
Obviously, I am not giving up my day job to become a professional photographer. However, I love taking pictures and using these apps to generate different effects is great fun. I do aspire to creating “stunning” images, and hopefully these apps will help that goal come to fruition! Try Snapseed and PSExpress out and let us know what you think in the comment section. Have fun!
